For Cruise 2017, Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele draws inspiration from mythology to update Gucci’s iconic bamboo bag-handle, which is first produced in 1947. The results are two new handbags – Nymphaea and Lilith – that combine sophistication, femininity, and strong appeal.
The Nymphaea bag possesses youthful and natural elegance – taking after the gentle qualities of the flower water lily and the nymphs of Greek and Roman mythologies. The bag comes in three styles and bears the Gucci’s iconic bamboo handle and buckle, Gucci logo, and the House’s iconic blue-red-blue web stripe.
In contrast of the simple elegance of the Nymphaea, the Lilith bag represents freedom, boldness, and femininity. It characterizes two of the House’s distinctive motifs – Gucci’s past which is represented by the iconic bamboo handle and the present, the coral snake.
